Post-Nominals Criteria
Depending on your current membership status and whether you’ve completed the IAP2 Australasia Certificate of Engagement (or Certificate of Public Participation), you may be eligible to use one of the following post-nominals. To confirm which applies to you, simply login to your Community Portal member account, and check under My Profile.

AEI | Associate
An Associate member is a student member, or other Engagement Institute members who have not met the CPD requirements of their class.
The CPD requirement does not apply as a prerequisite for eligibility to admission into, or for membership renewal of the class of Associate.

MEI | Member
A Member is a current financial member. To be eligible to renew membership with the Engagement Institute into the class of Member, an existing Member must fulfil the CPD requirements of this class.
A MEI is required to achieve 40 CPD points over three years.

GEI | Graduate
A Graduate has successfully completed an Engagement Institute course, being five days of study and includes:
- Certificate of Engagement
- Certificate of Engagement (Advanced)
- Foundations in Public Participation (and predecessor)
To be eligible to renew membership with the Engagement Institute into the class of Graduate Member, an existing Graduate Member must fulfil the CPD requirements of this class.
A GEI is required to achieve 60 CPD points over three years.

Additional Post-Nominals
FEI | Fellow (OPEN)
Admission as a Fellow is by nomination to the Board of Directors. This prestigious fellowship is awarded to long-standing Engagement Institute members who have demonstrated distinguished service to both the Engagement Institute (formerly IAP2 Australasia) and the field of stakeholder and community engagement.
From time to time the Board may consider automatic entry to Fellow to recognise exemplary practice and service, such as retiring Directors.
A person may be nominated for the Fellow category if the following criteria are satisfied:
- The person must be a current financial member of the Engagement Institute and to have been a member for at least the last three consecutive years.
- The person is of good standing and professionalism as expected by the Engagement Institute (the Standards).
- The person has made a personal and professional contribution which demonstrates they have the required skills, knowledge and experience.
- The person has been eminent in the field of engagement / P2 and has provided distinguished service to the Engagement Institute, and the stakeholder and community engagement profession.

HEI | Honorary Fellow
Admission as an Honorary Fellow is by invitation of the Board of Directors only.
Honorary Fellows are any person who has been eminent in the field of engagement/P2 and who has provided distinguished service to Engagement Institute (formerly IAP2 Australasia) and to engagement/P2 throughout Australasia (Affiliate Region) and/or globally.
Honorary Fellows are required to have been a member for at least the last five consecutive years.
Honorary Fellows must demonstrate and maintain they have the required skills, knowledge, experience and good standing and professionalism expected by the Engagement Institute (the Standards).
The CPD requirement does not apply as a prerequisite for eligibility to admission into, or for membership renewal of the class of Honorary Fellow.

If your membership is provided through your employer, you’re still eligible to use the appropriate post-nominal — Associate, Graduate, or Member — whichever is relevant to you personally.
To be eligible for the Fellow post-nominal, you must have held continuous membership for at least the past three years.
For the Honorary Fellow post-nominal, you must have held continuous membership for at least the past five years.
Yes, you must be a current financial member to be entitled to use any post-nominal (Associate, Member, Graduate, Professional, or Fellow).
The Standards for Professional Recognition set out the professional behaviours that are expected of post-nominal holders of all classes and the professional competencies that must be demonstrated by Fellows. There will be consequences for post-nominals when members no longer meet the Standards including dispute resolution and disciplinary processes. These are available for review in the Standards for Professional Recognition along with principles of professionalism and required competencies.
