New Parliamentary Inquiry to Examine Australia’s Civil Preparedness and Resilience

The Parliamentary Joint Committee on Defence has launched a new inquiry into Australia’s national civil preparedness and resilience, examining how governments, industry and communities can be better prepared to respond to major crises or conflict.

The inquiry will look at whole-of-nation preparedness, including continuity of government and essential services, coordination between Commonwealth, state, territory and local governments, collaboration with the private sector, and how the broader Australian community can be prepared for contingencies. It will also consider international approaches and how they could apply in Australia.

The Committee is currently accepting submissions, with submissions closing on Friday, 6 November 2026.
