Recovery Engagement: Bringing the Community in Behind the Barriers on State Highway 1 Brynderwyn Hills
2025 Core Values Awards – Disaster and Emergency Services| Highly Commended Submitted by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi. In early 2024, two severe weather events, the Auckland Anniversary floods and Cyclone Gabrielle, caused significant and widespread damage to the roading networks across Northland (Te Tai Tokerau). One of the hardest hit corridors was a 2 kilometre stretch of road along State Highway 1 (SH) Brynderwyn Hills. This road is a vital connection for communities and freight travelling between Northland and the rest of the North Island.
