October Advocacy Update: Strengthening Community Influence in Decision-Making

In our October Advocacy Update, Engagement Institute CEO Marion Short shares the latest work to strengthen meaningful engagement in decisions affecting communities across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. Recent submissions to the Australian Government and City of Melbourne on data centres and AI infrastructure call for earlier community involvement, clearer opportunities to influence decisions and greater accountability.

Marion also reflects on Engagement Institute’s appearance before a parliamentary inquiry into social licence in critical minerals projects, building on our earlier submission. Looking ahead, work is progressing on advocacy priorities for Aotearoa New Zealand’s upcoming election, alongside a submission on Australia’s national civil preparedness and resilience.

Watch the October Advocacy Update to hear more about these developments and what they mean for engagement practice.
