New Handbook Supports Communities in Navigating the Energy Transition

A new resource is now available to help communities participate more confidently and effectively in Australia’s energy transition. Collaborating for a Fair Energy Shift: A Handbook for Communities, produced by the Community Power Agency, brings together practical guidance for navigating engagement, accessing information, and working with developers, governments and energy agencies.

The handbook is designed to support communities that are experiencing — or preparing for — renewable energy activity in their region. It outlines key concepts in the transition, explains how projects move from feasibility to operation, and offers tools to help community members understand their rights, ask informed questions and participate meaningfully in decisions that affect them.

Importantly, the resource recognises the pressures facing regional communities and aims to create more balanced, constructive relationships between communities, industry and government. For engagement practitioners, it provides a useful insight into the perspectives, information needs and challenges that communities may bring to conversations about new energy projects.
