National Reconciliation Week: Creating Space to Listen, Learn and Reflect

Reconciliation Is A Practice

National Reconciliation Week is a time to reflect on our shared responsibility to strengthen relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians.

Held each year from 27 May to 3 June, National Reconciliation Week marks two significant milestones: the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision. The 2026 theme, All In, calls on Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every day.

For engagement professionals, this call carries deep relevance.

Meaningful engagement asks us to listen with respect, understand context, recognise power, build trust and create space for people to shape decisions that affect them. These responsibilities are especially important when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, partners and organisations.

Creating Space For Member Reflections

As part of National Reconciliation Week, and in line with our Reconciliation Action Plan, Engagement Institute is creating space to listen and learn from our community.

We invite members to share a short reflection on what reconciliation means in your practice, partnerships or community engagement work.

This might include:

  • a project or partnership that has shaped your thinking
  • a learning moment that changed your approach
  • how you are embedding reconciliation in your professional practice

Your reflection does not need to be long or polished. We are interested in honest, thoughtful insights from practitioners working across different sectors, places and communities.

Sharing With Consent

Anonymous submissions are welcome.

Reflections will only be shared with your consent, and we will confirm before publishing or using any member contribution in future communications.

Through these reflections, we hope to build a stronger picture of how reconciliation is being understood, practised and embedded across the engagement profession.

Submit Your Reflection

We encourage members to take a moment during National Reconciliation Week to reflect, share and contribute to the conversation.
