The Engagement Institute has been recognised in a new report from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), highlighting its contribution to strengthening community and stakeholder engagement practice across Australia.

Published on 12 October 2026, the Open Government Review of Australia: Strengthening Civic Space and Participation examines how Australia can strengthen public participation, build trust and improve government decision-making.

The report acknowledges the Engagement Institute’s role in shaping engagement practice and building professional capability, including through the Certificate of Engagement, EngageMark, IAP2 Spectrum of Public Participation and Engagement Timeframes Policy. It also references the Engagement Institute’s thought leadership on positioning engagement as a strategic leadership capability.

Importantly, the OECD recognises the influence of IAP2 frameworks on public-sector engagement approaches across Australia.

This recognition reinforces the importance of investing in professional capability, consistent engagement practice and meaningful opportunities for communities to influence decisions.

For engagement professionals, it is another reminder of the growing recognition of engagement as an essential part of effective governance and better decision-making.
