Engagement Institute at the National Local Roads, Transport & Infrastructure Congress

The Engagement Institute hit the ground running in Bendigo for the National Local Roads, Transport & Infrastructure Congress on 11–12 November — and what a powerful two days it was.

Across the Congress, one theme came through loud and clear: infrastructure decisions land better when engagement is embedded early, often and with intention. From rural road upgrades to major transport links, councils and infrastructure leaders are feeling the pressure to balance technical requirements with genuine community expectations. These conversations aren’t getting easier — but the appetite for better practice is growing fast.

At Display Table 8, we connected with practitioners, engineers, councillors and executives who are navigating these challenges daily. The discussions were wide-ranging and energised:

• How to build trust in long-term programs of work

• Improving conversations with impacted communities

• Embedding inclusive engagement in complex planning environments

• Lifting organisational capability beyond one-off projects

It was clear that local government professionals across Australia are ready to elevate their engagement maturity — and are looking for practical tools, credible guidance and a community of practice that moves at the pace of their work.
