Community-Led Design: Improving Health Access in North Western Melbourne

North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN), in collaboration with MosaicLab, has taken a bold step to address health inequities through a deeply participatory model. In early 2024, they convened a deliberative community panel to co-design practical solutions for improving access to primary health care for multicultural communities.

With over 1.9 million people in its catchment—and more than 200 languages spoken—NWMPHN needed a process that reflected the diversity and complexity of the region. Across four facilitated sessions, panel members explored barriers, refined solutions, and shaped ideas for future program design and funding proposals. Notably, participants also accessed a tailored AI tool that made it easier to engage with background materials and navigate system complexities.

The result? A set of informed community-led recommendations now underpin NWMPHN’s federal funding submission and ongoing place-based initiatives.
